Best Book of 2014
I read quite a few good ones. I think the best was More Than This by Patrick Ness. I sort of thought I was so over dystopias, but I read this and it was fucking amazing.

Worst Book of 2014
Darkfever by Karen MArie Moning. It's not like I expected great literature, but I was told it was similar to the Sookie Stackhouse books. But it lacked all of their charm and silliness.

Most Disappointing Book of 2014
Landline by Rainbow Rowell. Really her only book I haven't liked.

Most Surprising (in a good way) Book of 2014
Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares. I had little to no espectations for this book and was surprised to find I loved it even more than the original Sisterhood books.

Book You Recommended to People Most in 2014
The Magicians Land by Lev Grossman. But only because I'm always after people to read the Magicians Triology. The third one was the best BY FAR in the series.

Best Series You Discovered in 2014
Scott Pilgrim. I've had the whole series sitting on my shelf for a while. WHY did it take me so long to pick them up? I read all six in a few days time. In fact, the last four were all read in a day with my sick and vomiting three-year old sitting on my lap.

Favourite New Authors You Discovered in 2014
Bryan Lee O'Malley. Not only read Scott Pilgrim, but I also read Seconds.

Most Hilarious Read of 2014
Hyperbole and a Half by Aliie Brosh. My dog is dangerously close to SImple Dog.

Most Thrilling, Unputdownable Book in 2014
AGain, I've got to go with More Than This.

Book You Most Anticipated in 2014
Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. I still haven't read it - I only just got it as a Christmas gift.

Favourite Cover of a Book You Read in 2014
Last Call in the City of Bridges by Salvatore Pane. People think I'm crazy, but I love the Pittsburgh skyline.

Most Memorable Character in 2014
I read a large Deadpool collection. Who can ever forget Deadpool?

Beautifully Written Book in 2014
The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach. His writing is so reminiscent of John Irving.

Book That Had the Greatest Impact on You in 2014
Honestly, probably the Lumberjanes comic series. It's hard to find comics that feature girls and are FUN. But my husband and my eight year old son read them and we all loved them. It wa the first time all three of us read something and could talk about it.

Book You Can’t Believe You Waited Until 2014 to Finally Read
Scott Pilgrim.

Best Book of 2013

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It's one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Worst Book of 2013
I have a tendency to not finish books that I don't like. So I'll go with The Secrets of Droon, which was a book I read aloud to my seven year old. It wanted very badly to be like Magic Tree House, but failed miserably.

Most Disappointing Book of 2013
The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall. It got great reviews, but I really struggled to get through it.

Most Surprising (in a good way) Book of 2013
I have three of these. Everyday is an Atheist Holiday by Penn Jillette. I had no idea the sometimes annoying Jillette was so smart and could make me cry so much! The other is Jedi Academy by Jeff Brown. My seven year old and I read it together, and I was SHOCKED at how funny it was. And finally Everyday by David Levithan. I've read many of his books and always WANTED to like him more than I actually did. This book was finally what I've been looking for from him.

Book You Recommended to People Most in 2013
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Go forth and read it if you haven't!

Best Series You Discovered in 2013
I guess the Superman Earth One series. I love me some angsty Clark Kent :)

Favourite New Authors You Discovered in 2013
Rainbow Rowell and Raina Telgemeier

Most Hilarious Read of 2013
Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny "The Bloggess" Lawson. I love her and I love her blog.

Most Thrilling, Unputdownable Book in 2013
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I was late in discovering it.

Book You Most Anticipated in 2013
Even though I don't love them, I always highly anticipate the Buffy Season Nine graphic novels.

Favourite Cover of a Book You Read in 2013
Eh, I guess the Harry Potter series. Mary Grandpre is an amazing illustrator.

Most Memorable Character in 2013
Sherlock Holmes. I finally read two of the Holmes books!

Most Beautifully Written Book in 2013
The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp. I liked the book well enough, but I don't think I would have liked it so much if the prose wasn't so lovely.

Book That Had the Greatest Impact on You in 2013
Oddly enough - Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. Sometimes I feel guilty about raising kids in a small apartment in a high-rise building when everyone I know has their kids in a house in the 'burbs. But he normalized it for me, and made me feel good about the less-than-nice ways I think about my kids sometimes.

Raina Telgemeier's Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels. So cute!

Also, [livejournal.com profile] miss_slipslop assigned me a letter for the fandom character meme.  Instead of doing it here, I did the meme over at my blog, which has been so neglected recently.

Your five favourite TV shows -

A: Arrested Development
B: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
C: Six Feet Under
D: Weeds
E: Andy Richter Controls the Universe (I know....)

1. Who's your favourite character in B? SPIKE!!!! He's my favorite character on TV, period.

2. Who's your least favourite character in A?  Geez, I don't know.  Bland, probably.

3. What's your favourite episode of D? -- The season five ender.  Damn, what a finale - Shane killed Pilar?????

4. What's your favourite season of E? -- The only one.

5. Who is your favourite ship in C? --David and Keith, definitely.  Every ship had issues on that show, but David and Keith could definitely weather the problems best

6. Who is your anti-ship in B? --Buffy/Angel.  Angel is such a whiny little douche.

7. How long have you watched A? -- I watched all three seasons when they aired, and watch the DVD's once or twice a year since.

8. How did you become interested in C? -- It was created by Alan Ball, so I knew I had to watch.

9. Who's your favourite actor/actress in D? -- Hunter Parrish as Silas, definitely.

10. Which do you prefer: Show A or B or E? A -- Honestly, Arrested Development.  It's the epitome of what TV CAN be.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of, A or C? I've seen all episodes of both.  Though Arrested Development, I've seen each ep at least three times.

12. If you could be anyone from D, who would you be? -- Nancy Botwin.  She gets away with everything.

13. How would you kill off your favourite character in A? -- I'd have Tobias choke on his blue paint.  You know, from when he blue himself.

14. Give a random quote from A? -- Michael: "There's been a lot of lies in this family, mother."  Lucille: "And a lot of love." Michael: "But more lies."

15. Free space.

16. Would a C/D crossover work? -- Not really.  Two very different shows-though both did lean toward very dark humor.  So maybe Nancy deals to Claire and her friends?

17. Pair 2 characters in A that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple. -- Gob and Lucille Austero.

18. Has E inspired you in any way? -- Not really.  It makes me hate sporks or something.

19. Overall, which show has a better cast, B or D? B - Buffy.

20. Which has better theme music, C or E? --Six Feet Under.
